GTA 6 Release Date
So, when is GTA 6 coming out? Rockstar Games has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto VI will launch on November 19, 2026. The release date applies to the initial console launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
This means fans no longer need to rely on old rumors about the launch window. Rockstar has provided a confirmed date, although the company could still change the schedule if additional development time becomes necessary.
When Does GTA 6 Release?
GTA 6 releases on November 19, 2026. Rockstar has also confirmed that digital pre-loading will begin on November 12, one week before launch.
For players planning to buy the game digitally, pre-loading should make it possible to have the game ready before launch day.
GTA 6 Release Date PS5
The GTA 6 release date on PS5 is November 19, 2026. PlayStation 5 is one of the two confirmed launch platforms, alongside Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar’s official website currently lists PS5 as one of the supported platforms and highlights the game as playing best on PlayStation 5.
GTA 6 is designed for current-generation hardware, which should allow Rockstar to create a much larger and more detailed world than previous GTA games.
What Consoles Will GTA 6 Be On?
At launch, GTA 6 will be available on:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
Rockstar has officially confirmed these platforms for the November 19, 2026 release.
There is currently no official announcement for a Nintendo Switch 2 version.
Will GTA 6 Be on PC?
One of the biggest questions from PC gamers is: will GTA 6 be on PC?
As of August 2026, Rockstar has not announced an official PC release date for GTA 6. The confirmed launch platforms are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Rockstar has previously released major GTA games on consoles before bringing them to PC, so a future PC version would not be surprising. However, players should not treat rumored PC release dates as confirmed until Rockstar makes an official announcement.
GTA 6 Jason and Lucia
GTA 6 introduces two central protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Their relationship is expected to be an important part of the game’s story.
According to Rockstar, Jason and Lucia become involved in a criminal conspiracy after an easy score goes wrong. They must depend on each other while trying to survive across the state of Leonida.
Lucia has a difficult past and has recently been released from Leonida Penitentiary. Rockstar describes her as someone determined to improve her life and willing to take matters into her own hands.
Jason and Lucia’s partnership gives GTA 6 a different dynamic from earlier GTA games, where players often followed a single main protagonist or a larger group of playable characters.
Where Is GTA 6 Set?
So, where is GTA 6 set?
GTA 6 is set in the fictional state of Leonida, which includes the return of Vice City. Rockstar describes Leonida as a sprawling state containing the neon-filled streets of Vice City and surrounding areas.
Vice City is the GTA universe’s fictional interpretation of Miami, and GTA 6 returns players to the region for the first time since the original Vice City era.
The new setting is expected to be considerably larger and more varied than the Vice City seen in the 2002 game. Players will explore urban areas, highways, coastal locations, islands, and other parts of Leonida as Jason and Lucia’s story develops.
Best PC Games 2026
Although PC players are waiting for news about GTA 6, there are plenty of other major games to enjoy in 2026. The year’s gaming lineup includes new releases across action, RPG, racing, strategy, and adventure genres.
For gamers building a list of the best PC games 2026, it is worth watching major upcoming releases as well as established PC titles. GTA 6 remains one of the most highly anticipated games, but PC players will need to wait for Rockstar to officially confirm a PC version.
Why GTA 6 Is So Highly Anticipated
There are several reasons GTA 6 has generated enormous interest.
First, it brings players back to Vice City with a much larger modern setting. Second, Jason and Lucia introduce a new criminal partnership and storyline. Third, Rockstar is developing the game specifically for current-generation consoles, allowing it to push visual quality, world detail, animation, and open-world technology.
The official game description also confirms that the story extends across the state of Leonida rather than being limited to Vice City alone.
Final Thoughts
The wait for GTA 6 is finally approaching its end. The GTA 6 release date is November 19, 2026, with the initial launch confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Jason and Lucia will lead the story, while the game takes players back to Vice City and the wider state of Leonida.
For PC gamers, the biggest unanswered question remains the PC release. Rockstar has not announced a PC date yet, so players should wait for official information rather than relying on unofficial rumors.
With its massive open world, new characters, modern Vice City setting, and highly anticipated story, GTA 6 is positioned to be one of the defining gaming releases of 2026.
